Optimality-based bound contraction with multiparametric disaggregation for the global optimization of mixed-integer bilinear problems

چکیده
We address nonconvex mixed-integer bilinear problems where the main challenge is the computation of a tight upper bound for the objective function to be maximized. This can be obtained by using the recently developed concept of multiparametric disaggregation following the solution of a mixed-integer linear relaxation of the bilinear problem. Besides showing that it can provide better bounds than a commercial global optimization solver within a given computational time, we propose to also take advantage of the relaxed formulation for contracting the variables domain and further reduce the optimality gap. Through the solution of a real-life case study from a hydroelectric power system, we show that this can be an efficient approach depending on the problem size. The relaxed formulation from multiparametric formulation is provided for a generic numeric representation system featuring a base between 2 (binary) and 10 (decimal). * Corresponding author. Global optimization of bilinear programs with a multiparametric disaggregation technique
In this paper, we present the derivation of the multiparametric disaggregation technique by Teles et. al (2001) for solving nonconvex bilinear programs. Both upper and lower bounding formulations corresponding to mixed-integer linear programs are derived using disjunctive programming and exact linearizations, and incorporated into two global optimization algorithms that are used to solve biline...
متن کاملGlobal optimization of mixed-integer polynomial programming problems: A new method based on Grobner Bases theory
Mixed-integer polynomial programming (MIPP) problems are one class of mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problems where objective function and constraints are restricted to the polynomial functions. Although the MINLP problem is NP-hard, in special cases such as MIPP problems, an efficient algorithm can be extended to solve it. In this research, we propose an algorit...
متن کاملSufficient global optimality conditions for general mixed integer nonlinear programming problems
In this paper, some KKT type sufficient global optimality conditions for general mixed integer nonlinear programming problems with equality and inequality constraints (MINPP) are established. We achieve this by employing a Lagrange function for MINPP. In addition, verifiable sufficient global optimality conditions for general mixed integer quadratic programming problems are der...
متن کاملGlobal Optimization of Mixed-Integer Nonlinear Problems
Two novel deterministic global optimization algorithms for nonconvex mixed-integer problems (MINLPs) are proposed, using the advances of the BB algorithm for noncon-vex NLPs Adjiman et al. (1998a). The Special Structure Mixed-Integer BB algorithm (SMIN-BB addresses problems with nonconvexities in the continuous variables and linear and mixed-bilinear participation of the binary variables. The G...
متن کاملGlobal optimization of mixed-integer quadratically-constrained quadratic programs (MIQCQP) through piecewise-linear and edge-concave relaxations
We propose a deterministic global optimization approach, whose novel contributions are rooted in the edge-concave and piecewise-linear underestimators, to address nonconvex mixed-integer quadratically-constrained quadratic programs (MIQCQP) to ε-global optimality. The facets of low-dimensional (n≤ 3) edge-concave aggregations dominating the termwise relaxation of MIQCQP are introduced at every ...
